"Why is it," Earth thought to herself, "that Sky has the blue and the black, the red and the orange and the purple and I have no colors at all?" She watched Sky change colors throughout the day and night and became very sad. But Sky refused to share any of her bountiful wealth with Earth, instead keeping it all to herself. Finally the Earth cajoled Sky into making a deal. "If you send me some of yourself then I will give you something in return," Earth told her. So Sky droppedThis Is How It Began

The sun coaxes a heartbeat from each aching dune, a steady throb as the grain tumbles south. A sigh, a moan, another grain. The fingers of a hot breeze slip across the desert. Six grains rolling south. Shimmering heat waves ripple across the dune's spine, kissing every golden curve. The sun can grow no hotter when the dune rolls over, sand cascading from the peak.
